After a 4 a.m. alarm, a 4 hour flight from Chicago to Mexico City, a 5 hour layover in Mexico City, a 2 hour flight from Mexico City to Guatemala City, and an hour-long shuttle ride from Guatemala City to Antigua, we finally made it. Day 1 is basically in the books, since we’re too tired to do anything except write this blog post and pass out. For that much travel, though, everything went as smoothly as could be hoped for. Actually, the surprise perk of being granted complimentary access, WiFi, snacks and Dos XX (I stayed thirsty) to the American Express lounge at the Mexico City airport made this trip almost literally as comfortable as it could have been.
I’m sure we will have much more to say about some of the things we saw between Guatemala City and Antigua in the future (what is up with Taco Bell, Burger King, Pollo Campero, and McDonald’s having a playground for kids?), but for now it’s sack time. 1/365th is in the books!
